Sasha spent the night here again and we were shooting the breeze about past TOU marathons.  My friend Keith Anderson was up earlier in the evening.  Of the guys who have run all 15 marathons, these two have been the fastest average times.  But Sasha has run and average of 2:35 and change on these 15.  Incredible!  I wonder what he could do if he wore shoes.

I knew today would be tough.  I just haven't been recovering this year and have no long and fast training runs.  I stayed at 6:05 pace as long as I could but my legs were weak from the start.  Allie and Devra passed me about 8 I think and were looking great.  I decided to hold it through the half and take a break.  I stopped to walk and recovered arobically within a few seconds so I knew I was dealing with the legs.  No way I was going to DNF today, been there before.  I got running again and figured I could pull off a 3:20 if I just ran it slow and hung in there.  But after dropping back 40 seconds or so a mile, it felt pretty good and when I came to the finish I was just under the 3 hour.  Couldn't believe it.

If I keep running at these kind of paces I'm going to need to get some fuel belts and earphones.

Nice work Steve. That last line had me laughing out loud!

You had the best uniform out there. I love the cutoff camo singlet.

Two seconds makes a big difference. Congrats on the sub 3.

Thanks. Actually all the times were adjusted backwards 20 seconds by the timer guys in the afternoon. So I now have a 3:00:18 or something. It really should have been a 3:20. I was lucky
