Taking advantage of the great snow this weekend.  9 miles of crosscountry skiing from green canyon up to Tonys Grove.  Great workout, but pretty cold.  It's been real nice to have taken a break from the running for a bit.  Since I missed two scheduled races and could offer no appreciable reason to Brooks, I was dropped from as a sponsored runner.  Can't really decide how I feel about that since I can't stand their uniforms and have never worn one in a race anyways.  It was nice to get shoes for free and races paid for also, but it's true that I havn't been much in the mood for racing for a few months.  Its just more fun to run for the heck of it for a bit.

Steve - of course I've never been a "sponsored athlete", but I would find it annoying to have to race for anyone other than myself. Good luck in finding that balance you are looking for.

You are a faster athlete than most guys getting money for it at our age. I have always admired your balance of family and sport. The past month has been one that my kids needed my time completely and it took a lot just to let the running go for a while.

I'm not fast enough to really pursue money as a runner, although there are a lot more opportunities out there for masters runners than you would think. I have found its a great motivational tool and just a lot of fun meeting real runners but you have to be careful with the frustration of not having the time, health or any other of a million reasons why you can't do as well as you dream. I guess that's what makes it a challenge, right? Then you have those days when you run better than you should, so it probably balances out in the end. I have an offer now from IFrogz to sponsor the year and I am way excited about it. They are a super neat local company and will be a lot more flexible with what races I run. I hope this is a start to a new kind of sponsorship and maybe an IFrogz running team.

So, two weeks to some track running. How do you feel about the indoor championships?
